User Reviews for Orbit Cafe

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

This is the coolest place in SLC, the only place with any character. The service was prompt and friendly. Good drinks and food. The food wasn't great overall, but certainly not bad. We greatly enjoyed our relaxing time here. It's a pleasure to hang out and soak in the unique and fun environment.

Pros: Ambience, Good Menu

The reviews I read before trying Orbit Cafe admittedly left me with low expectations -- some had experienced marginal service, others were underwhelmed by the food, etc. However, after visiting for lunch today, I have my very own reasons to be unimpressed. When our party of four arrived for lunch at 11:30 a.m., we were the only customers there. The decor its arsty-industrial and hip and looked like it would be a lot of fun in the evening, but for lunch it was dead (we were dining during the week between Christmas and New Year's, so that could have something to do with it). We were quickly seated at the table near the front door. Our waitress soon stopped by, but after learning that we needed a few more minutes to look at the menu disappeared for an eternity. After joking among ourselves that perhaps she was really busy that day, we finally asked the door greeter to find her. She finally returned, looking like she really wasn't that excited to be there and her expression didn't change the entire time we were there. She was rather abrupt when my wife asked for her opinion of which of two entrees was better. I ordered the french dip, my wife and her friend each ordered the Tao Chicken sandwich (the waitress's preference over the buffalo chicken wrap) and the fourth member of our party ordered the shrimp tacos. My french dip was average, my wife didn't like her chicken sandwich at all, but the shrimp tacos were reportedly quite good. But again, our waitress seemed mildly annoyed when we asked for anything. One thing they do very well: FRENCH FRIES. These were thick, like steak fries, and well seasoned and very tasty, with a light crispy outside. This is a step in the right direction. We skipped dessert, as lunch had not been impressive. Overall, the decor and atmosphere seemed promising; if they can bring the service and food quality up to that level, we'd probably go back; for now, however, this was a miss for us.

Pros: great fries, funky atmosphere

Cons: food not great

Plenty of parking at lunchtime, and the place was almost empty. I called ahead since I had a large group, but didn't need to. Great atmosphere, unique dishes. If you're a picky eater, you might not be able to find something you like. A little pricey for lunch, but the food was worth it.

Pros: Not crowded, unique food

Cons: Average service

Wow!!!! Spice of Life is right, a great place to settle down with your friends or partner or a date you met at one of the local gay or straight clubs just around the corner. Not to mention youre within walking distance to the Gateway and all that's happening in downtown SLC. The decor is wild, fun and trendy. The service is excellent and the food is "out-of-this-world de-lic ious!" They have a great wine selection among other drinks. The Manager is great and "cute" and everyone is friendly. My partner and I have always felt welcome and we have an absolutely delightful time. If your visiting from out of town and your gay, straight or somewhere in between, make this one of your stops on your tour of SLC you won't be sorry. Cheers!

Pros: location, friendly, good food

Cons: none

What else can I say but WOW! What a little gem this place is, had no idea it was just steps behind the Gateway. Atmosphere was so cool, greeted and seated promptly, there were so many yummy things on the menu it was hard to choose. The food came out fast and was delicious, the Manager even came by our table to say hello and chat. The best part was me and my friends sat and had coffee after dinner for at least an hour, not only were they open late, but we didn't feel at all hassled to leave. Go there, you wont be disappointed!

Pros: Great Food, Affordable, Pleasant Staff

When I heard my date was taking me to a cafe, I thought we'd end up in a dumpy hole in the wall. Even the outside was immaculate! The decor is awesome with the lit up marbles in the walls, and soft personal lighting at the booths. The food was EXCELLENT! I had the fish tacos and fried ice cream, and my date had the salmon and cheesecake. Everything was FANTASTIC! Service was prompt and friendly. This is the place you need to bring your friends from out of town.

My husband and I ate their during lunch - and where were all the customers, the place was dead. The food was delicious and service was excellent. If you have not tried Orbit, make a date to go. Good value, excellent food, this is one place that should not be missed.

If you live in Salt Lake and haven't tried this place yet you are missing out! The menu has a wide range of pricing and food, from a basic breakfast for a couple of dollars, to one of their unique dishes like Chicken Wellington. Staff is fantastic, and will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy, if you need something special, just ask. Dishes can be prepared Vegetarian or Vegan as needed. I take all my visiting friends here and tell everyone I can, support this local restaurant!!!

Pros: Great Food, Awesome Atmosphere, Try the Crab Cakes!

Although this place is only a stone's throw from the Gateway, most people probably miss it. It really is worth checking out. The atmosphere is casual and fun with TV's showing sports but it is still different than your average cafe. The walls are adorned with illuminated glass marbles to give an outerspace effect. The food (especially the Chicken Wellington) is really good. The menu is diverse and the staff is both helpful and friendly. Give it a try.
