Kyoto is SLC's BEST Japanese food, bar none. The friendly staff is extremely helpful, courteous, professional and attentive. The fish is the freshest in Utah. The steaks are phenomenal and are provided in generous portions. Other Japanese restaurants in SLC charge the sme price, for the same menu, but the quality and service can no even hope to compare to that of Kyoto. Don't expect to just "show up" and quickly get a table. You will need a reservation for this place and it is more than worth the effort. You have many choices for Japanese dining, but you will never go wrong with Kyoto.

Pros: Fresh, Yummy, great service!

Cons: You need a reservation most of the time.

I love this restaurant! The sushi is always fresh, the miso soup is always excellent, and even the soy sauce tastes like it was made with love. Before dinner I sometimes wish there was more parking, but tonight, for instance, we had to park like a block away and after dinner I was sad we hadn't parked even farther away, because it's so nice to walk after a delicious satisfying meal. You know what I mean?

I orderred Sanma, smelled very bad (I dont know why) and tastes not good. I have eaten a lot of this, but it was different from other places. Even several weeks ago, my friend cooks Sanma, that was much better than that. Also, fried onion was too oilish. I might wanna ask what kind of oils they use.

My husband and I have been going to the Kyoto restaurant for years. The food is always delicious and the service is quick, friendly and efficient. My group of co-workers went for the first time about six months ago. They couldn't believe how fresh and good the food was. It has since become a favorite place to go to lunch at work. I have no reservations in recommending the Kyoto restaurant. One of my husband and mine favorite thing to do is to go to Japanese restaurants. The Kyoto is one of the best!

Pros: Great food and service

Cons: Not much parking

If you are looking for a great Japanese dining experience in Utah, look no further than Kyoto Restaurant. It is one of the very few "neighborhood" restaurants in Salt Lake City and offers excellent cuisine and a sushi menu that is refreshingly absent of trendy rolls and bad sushi combinations that are the norm in less authentic Japanese eateries around the city. Each time I have dinner or lunch at Kyoto I am treated to excellent service, food and atmosphere. The waitresses are on top of their game and can answer any questions about the cuisine, the portions are very satisfying and everything on the menu is delicious. On Friday and Saturday night you can expect a full house, so it is a good idea to call ahead for a table.

Pros: Friendly service, authentic food, great location

Cons: Busy on the weekend

Kyoto is perhaps my favourite Japanese restaurant in SLC. There are fancier places, cheaper places and more inventive places around for sure. But every time I go back to Kyoto, its like slipping on a pair of old comfortable slippers. The atmosphere is relaxed, service attentive (front of house is a litle rushed) and the food spot on. The food in fact is perfect on every occasion I have dined here. Not once have I been served a poor or cold meal. Something that a LOT of restaurants in SLC should take note of. Start with their excellent in house made miso and try a deliciously fresh seaweed salad next. If your a sushi nut the offerings here are traditional and as fresh as I hav had anywhere in Utah. There are no silly maki rolls here that take 6 hours to evaulate on a never ending menu. Just the subtleties of fresh fish. And hey if you like sushi, that is what your after right? If a standard entree is more to your liking the usual suspects of teriyaki, tempura, katsu and cooked fishes are all here. The entree plates are nothing short of huge. They come with soup, salad and bowl of rice. With an average price of $14-$16 for an entree you could happily stuff youself full. I defy anyone to go here and try one of the huge combo meals and leave hungry. Kyoto serves a small range of Japanese beers and a variety of Sake. They have also added a wine list of late I believe. The alcohol isn't the cheapest and when we dine this is where our main expenses lie at Kyoto. The only word of caution is the busyness. If you intend to go at the weekend plan on booking ahead. Sometimes you may get the opportunity to sit at the sushi bar but if you planned on a nice prviate booth you will kick yourself for not making that call in advance.

Pros: Fresh fish, excellent service, affordable

Cons: Busyness, parking lot is often full

Went to Kyoto at 9pm on a Friday night, no reservations, and had a table for 6 within 20 minutes. The waitress was fabulous and very friendly, even with the more finicky members of the party. The sushi was very good, the Avalanche roll was fantastic, a great first roll for my boyfriend. He's hooked! The miso is flavorful and VERY CHEAP, and the edamame was nice and salty, but a bit cold. Parking is rough during peak hours, but the wait staff is very friendly and the sushi great!

Pros: prompt and friendly service, cheap rolls

Cons: limited parking, no philly roll

The service and food is great! The people are so warm and welcoming each time we go there! I love it and will continue going to Kyoto! The ambience is great. It is a great place for singles, couples or families. They have really great prices for lunch and dinner. If you haven't gone you are missing out. The only downfall is they do tend to get busy but it is worth it everytime!

Pros: Great food and service

Cons: They get booked fast

As soon as I walked into Kyoto with my best friend and sister, I was greeted with a friendly waitress who immediately seated us at a booth with our request. The waitress gave us an appropriate amount of time to decide on what we were going to order. Since this was our first visit to Kyoto, the waitress gave us some recommendations and suggestions for our order. Their service was good, my water was kept full at the most, and the DELICIOUS sushi was made by authentic Japanese chefs. I would definitely recommended Kyoto for someone who is looking for a new place to enjoy a heartwarming meal accompanied by top-of-the-line service :)

Pros: Very Friendly Service, Rich Tasting Sushi, Good Atmosphere

Cons: Crowded at Times
