I might be partial to Malstrom Salon because I love Aveda products, but I absolutely adore Amber! I recently moved here and was looking for a great place to get my haircut and I'd ask people whose hair I admired where they got their haircuts and the answer was always, "Malstrom Salon". I started going to Amber because I knew her, but I continue to go to Amber because she gives the best cuts in town! She replicated a picture I brought in and I continue to get compliments almost THREE MONTHS after having seen her! Her haircuts grow out flawlessly and she is so good at portraying to her customers what will look good and stylish, it's fantastic! I'm never nervous about what she's going to do! Love her and love this salon!

Pros: Excellent haircuts, color and atmosphere

Cons: Little pricey, but you pay for what you get

Chris Malstrom is one of the very few stylists I've ever had who "gets" my hair. I have pretty thick hair with a mind of its own - it's somewhere between curly and wavy - and I've never really been able to style it consistently before without a huge amount of product. Chris isn't afraid to use the thinning shears, and he understands how and where to remove weight to help control the waywardness. Once a year I have him do something fun with my hair to try out something new, and he's never failed to impress. After he started cutting my hair, I started getting compliments! Amber does my brows, and she's fabulous - efficient and she has a good eye for balance (my brows are naturally lopsided). Highly recommended.

Amber has been my stylist for the last few months and I can't say enough good things about her! In the past I've brought stylists photo after photo, but never got the look I wanted. After talking with Amber a few minutes, she set to work and did exactly what I wanted, no photo needed. Her cuts grow out beautifully, never shaggy or uneven and she is amazing with color, no easy feat on my nearly black hair. The salon is quiet and calm, the decor beautiful and chic without trying too hard. I'm so pleased to find a salon of this caliber in Salt Lake.

In the never-ending race to be the most trendy, it's nice to find a salon that provides an excellent product, in an excellent environment without getting caught up in the pomp of all of the other salons. As a 30-something professional male, married with children, Malstrom is great because I get the best cuts I've had, I don't worry about them doing something totally crazy that would make me look like a punk, and it's not a place that's so gay or girlie that I feel out of place and not so sexual that I wouldn't take my kids there. Go Malstrom!

I have been going to see Amber at Malstrom for about a year. Great, great, great cuts! She really stays current with the trends and styles and goes to hair shows to get new ideas. Amber is funny, attentive and REALLY good at hair. I am a totally picky person, who has NO problem telling people if I hate the haircut and I have never been unhappy with one of her cuts. Book an appointment with her today! You will not be sorry! Heather in SLC

Pros: Cute salon, Aveda products, so everything smells good!

Cons: Upselling of products... but you get that at any salon.

Chris is amazing! He completly gave me a new look and I love it. The customer service at this salon is the best in Salt Lake City hands down! I will never go to another saloon...Thanks Chris!

I went to the owner of this salon, Chris Malstrom, for several visits. Each visit I was there, his attention was re-directed to running his business (ie phone calls, questions from his staff etc.) from what he was doing with my hair cut. You could see the uneveness each time he started and stopped my cut when his attention was re-directed to his business concerns rather than my hair cut. I have found another stylist who pays attention to cutting my hair when I'm in his chair, rather than running his business to increase the sales dollars.

Pros: nice decor

Cons: horrible parking

Chris Malstrom is very professional and has given me the best haircuts I have ever had. He's also a very talented colorist. Also, Malstrom salon is a beautiful salon and a treat to visit. If you can't get an appointment with him, try another stylist at his salon. He gets great people in there.
