Editorial Review for Cucina Toscana – by Vanessa Chang
The Scene
High exposed ceilings, contemporary designs and tightly spaced white-linen tables welcome the many locals who have adopted the establishment as a favorite. An exposed kitchen is flanked by an embankment of antipasti and the evening's desserts. To witness the dance of servers and general manager Valter Nassi around the tables and aisles is an entertaining show.
The Food
In contrast to its chic surroundings, the food is unpretentious and authentic. Fresh handmade pasta and gnocchi serve as a base for delectable house-made lasagna and a creamy mushroom or pesto sauce. The second-course entrees showcase Tuscan ingenuity for grilled and roasted meats in a wonderfully uncomplicated display of flavor. The menu is heavy with nightly specials, creating a sense of adventure each time patrons arrive. Desserts are equally delicious, with classics like beautifully done tiramisu, tangy lemon tart with pine nuts, and the popular creamy gelato.

I've dined here a few times, and every time I am more impressed. This restaurant not only tastes like authentic Italian food it FEELS like authentic Italian food. Lots of energy, lots of courses, a different menu all the time, and the owner/chef waltzing amongst the tables giving loud praises, hugs, and lavishing authentic hot chocolate on guests that he seems to recognize.
Pros: Everything was delicious.
Cons: Tough to get a table.

This place is consistently great. The food is prepared to perfection and the service is very good. It is loud, not very romantic but a great place to go with friends to celebrate. Salt Lake City is unfortunately not known for its eateries, but this place would survive in any city and would compete well in San Francisco or NYC.
