Editorial Review for Globe Cafe by Moonlight -- CLOSED – by Helen Hodgson
The Scene
Blue and purple recessed lighting and tiny white lights suggest the night sky. From the clean lines of the metal chairs to the industrial tables, Globe has an urban feel, accented with bright modern paintings. Flickering candles and quiet jazz add to the appeal.
The Food
Departing from a lunchtime deli menu, the nighttime menu raises the innovative bar. Appetizers range from wild boar carpaccio to monkfish medallions. The entree menu features an array of main dishes, sauces, and sides. The chef's play on surf and turf is alligator and sweetbreads in a wild-game reduction. The lemon snapper--served Asian-style on a bed of soba noodles--and the house-made pasta filled with creamy ricotta cheese and broccoli rabe in a sun-dried tomato beurre blanc burst with flavor. Simple white dishes in varying shapes highlight each presentation, making the food appealing to the eye and the palate.

Insider Tips
ParkingStreet parking is limited, especially weekend nights. Take Trax instead--there's a stop in front of the restaurant.
Changing MenuThe menu changes twice each season--don't expect to find your favorites each time you return.
A Little PrivacyRequest one of the booths if it's quiet time you want--they offer more privacy than the open dining room.
Live EntertainmentThere's live jazz on Thursday nights, beginning about 8:30pm; Saturdays, the DJ starts around 8pm.

i wasn't entirely disappointed, but it wasn't enough to pull me back again. i found the the ambience, with the metal furniture, concrete floor, and austere booths, to be cold and industrial instead of romantic or artistic. There's also a HUGE tv screen over the bar where the booths are, hardly cozy or intimate. Don't listen to the Citysearch review, sit in the front of the restaurant at a table. It's far nicer. The food was adventurous. i had an excellent lamb short ribs appetizer. Some of the wild combinations didn't work in my opinion though. My broccolli rabe side was overly tart. In addition, my wife's scallops were basically raw inside although they did cook them more when requested. Prices were high as well. This should be a $$$ place not $$. Service was ok, not particularly well trained, but attentive probably because the restaurant was mostly empty.
Pros: interesting menu
Cons: expensive, uncomfortable

I agree that this restaurant is not your usual Salt Lake City restaurant. It has a very nice metropolitan feel. Unfortunately expensive and unusual food does not equal to great tasting food. Ive been to many fine restaurants in my life and this one ranks below average because of the food. The chefs try to be daring and inventive with the food but it comes out to be neither elegant nor rustic. Its just very plain
Pros: Ambience, No Crowds
Cons: Wait Staff, Food
