The Scene
It's a small, crowded corner cafe with high ceilings, a handful of tables and a counter next to the window. The restaurant's backyard has tables for outdoor dining in warmer months. Above the friendly sushi chef, menu boards spell out your options--place your order and they'll call your name when it's ready.
The Food
The chicken teriyaki bowl--tender chicken and vegetables piled over rice--is the most popular menu item and is available in three sizes to satisfy any appetite. Katsu-don (breaded pork cutlet) is a flavorful medley of sprouts, onions, tofu, breaded pork cutlet, egg and seaweed strips served over rice in a sukiyaki sauce. Thick, round rice noodles, tofu and unexpected vegetables--like potatoes and broccoli--make the miso soup udon. The sushi selection is good with numerous rolls and nigiri, each one rolled as it is ordered. (Not served between 3pm and 6pm).

I've tried many Japanese restaurants in Salt Lake City. This place is the best so far. The foods they serve are very close to real Japanese food.

I've had Koko Kitchen's teriyaki and several different sushi rolls, and I've never been disappointed.
