Editorial Review for Martine – by Virginia Rainey
The Scene
An intimate, grown-up dinner destination, Martine is well-designed and comfortable. Original tiles, immense oak and beveled-glass doors, and a bar backed by an old bank vault give the restaurant character. Small dinner parties and post-event revelers make the atmosphere lively.
The Food
Though half the menu is billed as tapas, the items are actually small plates with international influences. Flavors are beautifully orchestrated in most dishes. Outstanding selections include the moist and perfectly glazed pimiento- and garlic-marinated quail, served atop creamy polenta and porcini-marsala jus. Tender seared calamari with a kiss of lime and saffron is a must. Full fixed-price dinners include generous entrees with varying preparations of lamb, duck, seafood or Martine's version of paella with chicken confit. Desserts are delicious creations: Moroccan-style bread pudding with house vanilla gelato, for example.

The menu is small and simple. We enjoyed the tapas and a great bottle of wine. We shared four different tapas: white asparagus, chorizo something..., beef, and I can't remember the other one, but it was all good! The bread was delicious and I didn't know I hadn't had REALLY good olive oil, until I came here. It was delicious. The atmosphere is romantic and definitely suited for couples, not large groups.
Pros: Romantic setting, variety even on a small menu
Cons: parking is annoying

This is a great date place. I picked up my fiance from the SLC airport, and surprised her with a night out. The waiters were very friendly, seating was cozy, and the food was terrific. I made reservations, but I don't think I could have just as easily walked in without them.
Pros: Great food, service, ambience
Cons: None to think of
