Editorial Review for Oasis Cafe – by Robyn Galbos
The Scene
The Oasis, located in the same building as the Golden Braid Bookstore, has an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. A courtyard between the bookstore and the cafe serves as a pleasant patio, though it can get hot on summer afternoons. Dinners here are enjoyable. A small fountain in the center of the courtyard is surrounded by herb-filled pots.
The Food
Sophisticated vegetarian, seafood and vegan fare with international flavors. Breakfast includes German buttermilk pancakes, Santa Fe huevos rancheros and homemade granola. For lunch, choose from a variety of sandwiches and salads. Try coriander-crusted tuna sandwich or roasted vegetable muffaletta. Standout dinner entrees include eggplant ravioli and a smoked salmon fillet. To drink, it has a well-balanced wine list and also offers local beers. Or choose from a variety of juices, coffees and teas.

I used to frequent Oasis cafe a few years ago and it was amazing. Atmosphere, food, and service was great. Something has happened. I've given this place a good 8 attempts to win me back this year, but every time I've been back I've been unimpressed. The most notable problem - poor service. If you read the other reviews, you'll see this complaint a lot. I haven't had a server ask how my food was once! I never get refills on my beverages. I always have to flag someone down to get the check. The food has gone downhill as well. My grilled potatoes in the Mediterranean Salad were raw in the middle. The salad completely overdressed. My food usually comes out cool, not hot. The worst part of it all is that I've written to the owners and never got any response from them. It's clear to me now (don't know why I gave them so many chances) that I'm not going to give them my business anymore.
Pros: Ambience, Patio dining, open on sundays
Cons: Terrible service, below average food, customers not valued

My boyfriend and I are new to Utah, and I was excited to find out about the Oasis Cafe. We are both liberal west-coasters, and this restaurant seemed to offer an evening of pretending we were back home. Yes, the atmosphere was serene and calming, and the service was friendly. But then the food arrived. We both ordered fish - I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the mahi mahi. The sauces and side dishes accompanying the fish were pretty good, but the fish was horrible. Rubbery. Very rubbery. If we hadn't paid $18 each, I don't think we would have attempted to actually eat it. What a mistake. We both had awful tummy aches all evening and into the next morning. While it may be nice to go to the Oasis Cafe and have a small salad or sandwich and then peruse the cute, new age bookstore, I would not recommend spending money on the dinner entrées.
Pros: Atmosphere
Cons: Horrible rubbery fish, prices
